Happiness is a state of mind. We are constantly in a quest for happiness, while it lies calmly within us. Let’s talk about the 3M’s that pave way for ultimate happiness!
Mindfulness is all about completely living in the present. It is about enjoying the bits and pieces of life, as it happens around you. It is about doing one thing at a time and enjoying the same.
Here are some simple ways to start with:
- For a week, while you walk, never look at your smartphone and enjoy the world around you
- While you eat, cut off all distractions and focus just on the food
- When you play with your child, take off all other thoughts from your mind and become his or her true mate
It is surely a recipe for happiness!
It is the art of living with just what you need. The very basic needs of a human are food, shelter and decent clothing. The basic needs of a modern human are a good profession, small and happy family, good health and reasonable wealth. Everything else is luxury.
Unhappiness stems from the artificial needs we have invented for ourselves. Take your hefty credit card bill that your are struggling to pay, for example. Unless it was an emergency, there is no need to buy unhappiness in the form of debt.
Do this simple exercise. Look at all the non-basic things that are occupying your home. Treasure, trash or donate depending on the item. Start with one part of your house and continue with the rest!
As Dalai Lama once said, if we teach all our children to meditate, terrorism can be eliminated in just one generation.
Our mind is also a machine, though an intellectual one. Sleep is an essential and wonderful form of meditation. But conscious meditation (when we are awake) goes a long way in calming our mind and bringing clarity to our thought process.
So here are the 3M’s again – Mindfulness, Minimalism and Meditation. When done right with right intentions, happiness embraces your life with both hands.
